The Hansen Foundation

28 years of giving

Sponsored by the Hansen Foundation

The Hansen Foundation exists to support comprehensive, end-to-end holistic rehabilitation of the whole person that seeks recovery. We provide the resources needed to help restore those in need – and thrive, as productive members of society post-treatment. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’ve helped thousands across the country to reclaim their lives, rebuild their families, regain purpose, reestablish confidence and ultimately – revitalize our communities, one life at a time.

Recovery Residences

The Hansen Foundation offers affordable, comfortable, and long-term recovery housing through Serenity Estates and Serenity Houses. These residences are designed to provide a supportive environment for those facing overwhelming obstacles in their journey to recovery.

Enlightened Farms

In addition to our recovery residences, we operate Enlightened Farms, a nonprofit organic farm that fosters a sustainable and healing environment. Through hands-on experiences with nature, participants cultivate personal growth, resiliency, and community connection.

A Journey Rooted in Recovery

The Hansen Foundation was born from Jennifer Hansen’s personal recovery journey. At just 25 years old, after numerous unsuccessful attempts at rehabilitation, Jennifer found hope in a women’s transitional facility in California. Over two years of hard work, 12-step recovery, and personal growth, she gained the tools to live a drug-free life.

Returning home to New Jersey, Jennifer saw a significant lack of resources for long-term recovery. Determined to fill this void, she founded The Hansen Foundation in 1999. Since then, she has opened numerous recovery residences, including Hansen Houses, Serenity Houses, and Serenity Estates.

Clean and sober since March 3, 1996, Jennifer is now 25+ years into her recovery journey. Her dedication to helping others is rooted in her belief that her struggles were part of a greater purpose:

“Some of us have to get down in the hole and learn how to get out so that we can show others. Every step I took along the way was God leading me. The best feeling ever is when someone comes up to me and says, ‘That house saved my life. Thank you so much for giving me a place to recover.’ There is nothing better than that.”
